One-to-One Private School - Grades 6 through 12

Founded in 2015, Signature One-to-One School is a coeducational private school for grades 6 – 12. With a mission to deliver a top college-preparatory academic education, Signature One-to-One School offers high academic standards with schedule flexibility that allows students to pursue high-level extracurricular passions. Classes are conducted six days per week and year-round to meet the scheduling needs of any student. In addition to one-to-one class time, students are expected to complete four to five hours of independent work per subject each week. Full academic support services, including homework help, subject tutoring, college counseling, and standardized test preparation are offered as well. The one-to-one model encourages Signature students to become independent, productive, and intellectual learners who pursue their passions, both in and out of school.

Accreditation

Signature One-to-One School, formerly known as Wellington Preparatory School One-to-One Academy, received provisional approval for the change in the school’s name from our accreditor, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA CESS). Thanks to the ongoing support from Middle States, there is no disruption for students, families, or teachers during these administrative changes.

Our Faculty

An exceptional faculty is a requirement for success in one-to-one learning. Signature One-to-One School teachers and administrators are experts in their fields. Two-thirds of the teachers have graduate-level degrees, including M.S., M.A., M.B.A., and J.D. degrees. Half of those with Master’s degrees have also earned one or more Ph.D. degrees.

Our School’s Story

When we launched Signature Academics in January 2014, our goal was to provide a learning environment for students and families who value (and require) a top education at a high level. Exceptional faculty, curricula, experience, professional oversight, and academic integrity allow Signature to deliver on the promise, with services ranging from traditional subject tutoring through standardized test prep and college planning. As part of our promise, we also wanted to be able to meet the educational needs of two types of students:

  • Students who have to withdraw from their full-time schools in order to spend multiple weeks or even months away from home and on the road to pursue an extracurricular endeavor; and,

  • Students who want a high quality and personalized alternative to the lack of personal interaction they found in most online schools.

To meet the need, in 2015 we launched Signature One-to-One School (then known as Wellington Preparatory School One-to-One Academy) to offer traditional, college preparatory academics with non-traditional scheduling and one-to-one teaching for grades 6-12, based at Signature Academics in Wellington at 12300 South Shore Blvd. Options for Signature One-to-One students include:

  • Full-year, full-time enrollment - Signature One-to-One is the full-time school for dedicated students who want academic rigor and need schedule flexibility to pursue significant extracurricular commitments.

  • Seasonal full-time enrollment - Signature One-to-One meets the needs of students who have to withdraw from another full-time school for a quarter, trimester, or semester and need to be able to customize the curriculum to match that of the full-time school to which they’ll return. Seasonal, custom, accredited academics are crucial for equestrian student-athletes who must withdraw from their full-time schools to be in Wellington or Ocala.

  • Part-time enrollment - Any student can choose to take one or two courses for a semester or a full school year, like a second language, an advanced literature course, or an elective in an area of interest that the student’s full-time school doesn’t offer. Part-time students also take summer courses for credit.

Course credit is accepted and transferable to other schools, colleges, universities, and the NCAA. One-to-one teaching and flexible scheduling allow student-athletes to adjust academic schedules around training, travel, and competition. Each academic course requires a minimum of two one-hour class meetings each week (An AP/IB class requires three hours per week of teaching time). When students are not in Wellington or Ocala, they meet their teachers for live online classes. For seasonal students who enroll for a quarter, trimester, or semester, Signature One-to-One teachers customize the course syllabi and pacing or work to match the material the student's full-time school will be covering.

Success Stories

The Signature One-to-One team has more than eight years of experience working with students to customize courses and schedules year-round and seasonally. Below are a few examples of customized solutions for a variety of situations.

  • Bridget P., now a successful student in her junior at Reed College in Oregon, was a full-time student in an online high school. For her senior year, she wanted to take an AP English course to focus on improving her writing. For Bridget, working directly with an expert teacher with whom she'd be able to discuss the readings and engage in hands-on editing sessions was critical. While her online school offered the AP course, it could not offer the lively, guided discussion and personalized writing support of a human teacher.

  • Sophie G. graduated from The Bromfield School, a Boston-area public high school. For four years, Sophie enrolled at Wellington Prep for her third quarter studies. During the pandemic school year, Sophie also took full-year courses in AP Biology and Honors Chemistry at Wellington Prep. She is justifiably proud of the "5" she earned on the AP Biology exam. Sophie is currently enjoying a gap year and will attend the University of Richmond beginning in the fall of 2023.

  • Skyler F. graduated from Wellesley High School, a public school in the Boston area. She had three years of seasonal enrollment at Wellington Preparatory School, and is now a student at Southern Methodist University. In addition to being recruited to SMU's Division 1 NCAA equestrian team, Skyler applied and gained admission to the undergraduate program at SMU's Cox School of Business.

  • Jessie G. wanted to be able to train and compete in Florida, and her Connecticut boarding school would only allow it if she could enroll in an accredited school for the second trimester. Wellington Preparatory School coordinated with Choate Rosemary Hall to customize a curriculum and provide teachers for Jessie that allowed her to stay on pace with her classmates and return for the third trimester as if she'd never been away. Jessie is currently on a gap year and continuing to train and compete in high-level equestrian sport.
